My phone died yesterday and instead of thinking of losing numbers and not being able to call someone or how I’m going to tell my friends, I thought of which apps I’m going to miss first and how I’m going to do certain things without the daily app interaction. 

I use my phone for the alarm to wake me up in the morning, to read and learn things, to track my weight, my steps, my finances, to interact with friends and family via social media or text, and a lot more. What I do not use my phone a lot for is to call people. I have never liked talking on the phone. For me, a quick text usually takes care of what you need a phone for, a notification of some sort.

I know communication is important. I suck at it, but I know the importance. I’m not saying I never talk on the phone, just that it’s not my favorite activity in life. I have a few friends that I love dearly, but I haven’t talked to in a very long time. There are certain friends that I can go without talking to for months or a year and then when I call or they call me, we pick right back up where we left off as if we just spoke yesterday. Do you know why? Because we have already established the love of friendship and built the relationship of knowing each other.

Friendship is important. A good friend knows us, cares for us, accepts us, tolerates our shortcomings, and most importantly, is there for us if needed, even if you haven’t actually spoken to them in a long time.
